    What makes a Tagar#community strong? I believe it entails some elements of leaders who are willing to give back and a strong support system within the community. I cannot be more proud of the MIT Sloan School of Management Southeast Asia Association, my home far away from home throughout my time here in Cambridge.Back in the region, the competition between Indonesia and Malaysia, for example, has been a fun brotherly tension to observe. However, here we see how our two leaders, Pak Muhamad Chatib Basri and Dato Seri Idris Jala, who were former ministers in their own respective fields, are deeply committed to giving back to the SEA community. From Pak Chatib, I was reminded of the macroeconomic and geopolitical situations of the region where we need to strategically plan and play our cards in navigating the future of the region. From Dato Idris, I learned the importance of getting to the root of the problems in order to address and make a turnaround change in businesses and countries.Both insights are important key takeaways that I will need to embrace after my MBA experience. Leading the MIT SEA Sloan Community with Naveen Sharma has been a blast, and I look forward to my fellow Izzat Aziz, CFA strengthening the SEA community at MIT and beyond moving forward!     MIT Sloan Africa Innovation Conference just concluded last week and I could not be more excited to see the pieces of relationship that I built over MIT Sloan School of Management IAP Winter period comes together in Boston.I want to give shout out to Eberechukwu Onwuegbule, ACCA who has been bringing the Africa region to the MIT community. As the co-president of MIT Sloan Africa Business Club, she has been the one that pushed me to visit Nairobi to work with Wandia Gichuru of Vivo Woman. We also had a special session with Michael Joseph, the Chairman of Kenya Airways and previous CEO of Safaricom, where he shared what impact means throughout his work in the continent. Little that I know that seeing the Tagar#development efforts, such as the Tagar#empowered Tagar#women that stitch Vivo’s Made in Kenya outfits for the world, has shaped my belief of what the African continent can accomplish in the near future! ---This post is part of a series for the MIT Sloan School of Management Social Media Management class with Professor Ben Shields.     Exciting news for Thailand's economic development!Recently, Dr. Kobsak Pootrakool (MIT PhD ‘97, Senior Executive VP at Bangkok Bank, former Minister at Offoce of the PM of Thailand) shared some interesting updates and challenges on Thailand's progress in the MIT ASEAN Lab class. Here are the takeaways: 1) Infrastructure connectivity. Thailand has invested almost USD28bn over the past 20 years to improve its infrastructure connectivity with the Asia Pacific region by land, sea, and air. There is a huge optimism that Thailand will become a logistic hub for the region.2) Technology investment. The development of Eastern and Western economic corridors aims to attract investments in the growing industry, such as EV, Agribusiness, Tourism and Wellness, Robotics, Petro, IoT, and Logistic.3) Rising inequality. Inequality is increasing in Thailand, with the top 20% having more than 50% of income and 80% of land ownership. This may lead to sustainability problems, such as middle-income trap and sociopolitical issues.The Southeast Asia region is indeed rising and exciting.
