    Vicario Reinaldo Career pivot is tricky After making plenty of mistakes, I learned how to make a successful one Here is 5 tips that you can apply to the mistakes I made Tip 1: Be brutally honest (with ourselves) about what we are looking for There is no shame if we are solely motivated by money So long we are mindful about the consequences Tip 2: Truly understand the role we are heading towards Google, talk to people, and validate our assumptions so we know what we sign up for Don’t let assumptions ruin our decision Tip 3: Leverage our existing skill set This will help us to add value quickly, grow confidence sooner, and build credibility faster Start with what we are good at before expanding to what we are passionate about Tip 4: Carefully plan our finance Sometimes our new role requires us to take a pay cut or give variable income Set the minimum that we can tolerate and spend mindfully Tip  5: Decide when we are in a good state of mind Career pivot is a massive decision Decide after assessing all the options, not right after a heated argument with our boss You might wonder that if you follow the tips above that you will make a good decision Let’s be very clear on what a good decision is We often use the outcome as an indicator of the quality of the decision If the career pivot brings us more money, we think we made a good decision If we get laid off after doing the pivot, we think we made a poor decision While this makes sense, this is a poor indicator Why? Outcome is often outside of our control Instead, let’s assess the quality of our decision based on the decision making process If you do the following 1. Be brutally honest (with ourselves) about what you are looking for 2. Truly understand the role you are heading towards 3. Leverage your existing skill set 4. Carefully plan your finance 5. Decide when you are in a good state of mind You have made a good career pivot decision
